Blog Post # 6

1. How will emerging technology (ie: blogs, videos, e-readers,e-books) affect literacy?
Like texting, when we use social networks, our language will only be limited to u, or lol. But with blogs, we use normal english and proper language. Videos and e-readers will help in the literacy part because of the sole use of reading and listening. It helps those that are visual and auditory.

2. How is Web 2.0 challenging us to "rethink ourselves" (ie: friendships, work, education, community, family etc...)?
Sometimes, when we are on the computer and just msning people, we have a lot more to talk about and we my be even more friendly than the person in real life. I know that because I am like that as well. However, it also improves some relationships that were dulled down. Our friendships my be strong but it will affect our education and family. We will then be constantly on the computer or phone to actually have communication over dinner. We may improve our friendship with others, but we may even server our relationship with our parents.

A Look at Music Videos
Initial reaction: What are your immediate thoughts and observations when you view the music video?

It was completely creepy. The song in the beginning and the narrations was weird. The cloaks and the choir voices gave me chills.

Consideration of cultural context: What events may have influenced the musician, musical group, and director to create this music video?

The view in society. A lot of people are heartless that turn themselves away from those who need it.

Expression of aesthetic judgment: How does the cinematography, acting and performance, choreography, storyline, special effects, lyrics, and musicality work together in the music video? How do the visuals affect your admiration or disdain for the song?

After looking up the meaning to the lyrics. It helped me understand a bit more to the ic cold feeling that they present really well. The dancing was great and was very fluid.
Ongoing reflection: How has your chosen music video influenced your reception of the song?
It gives me a taste on what their song represents. Many different songs that meanings hidden under the song that the artist feels. Or perhaps the song was meant to explain things.

Taken from Youtube.

Meaning of the lyrics

Careless, careless. Shoot anonymous, anonymous.
Heartless, mindless. No one. who care about me?
I guess I have no choice but to tolerate who was lost outside
Even though I close my eyes
MAMA! Answer me, why did the people change
Did they notice the existence of that time
I have forgotten how to just hear, love and care, no longer but lost
Turning their backs while working while living
Full of envy behing that anonymous mask
Even after seeing the end, you’re still full with hunger
Are you satisfied now?
Wouldn’t we face our eyes anymore?
Wouldn’t we communicate? Wouldn’t we love?
Tearing up to the reality that hurts
Say MAMA if you can change it, say MAMA
From a day we were behind the bars of a smart prison voluntarily
0 & 1 were used digitally to make my personalityThere is no life, feelings and warmth over there, there is only trashy language
There’s a wilderness of a self-desolated one
Lonliness increases as days go by
As human beings we can only be hurt. Yeah-
Laugh, cry all together, holding hands meeting that feeling
Each resemble and connect to each other
If you ever want to recover.
Wouldn’t we face our eyes anymore?
Wouldn’t we communicate? Wouldn’t we love?
Tearing up to the reality that hurts
Say MAMA if you can change it, say MAMA
Turnback!
Die, kill, shout the fight. This is not a war
MAMA MAMA MAMA MAMA Help me to Turn back
MAMA MAMA MAMA MAMA Aware of Rolling back
Getting hit and back, sharing sides, this is not even a game
MAMA MAMA MAMA MAMA Help me to Turn back
Yeah-
Careless, careless. (MAMA) Shoot anonymous, anonymous. (MAMA)
Heartless, mindless. (MAMA) No one. Who care about me? (MAMA)
I’m grateful to be allowed to live in this blessed days
Every day creating new ties
Sharing good love with everyone rather than shhatered hearts
If you can still laugh
Wouldn’t we face our eyes anymore?
Wouldn’t we communicate? Wouldn’t we love?
Tearing up to the reality that hurts
Say MAMA if you can change it, say MAMA
Careless, careless. Shoot anonymous, anonymous.
Heartless, mindless. No one. Who care about me?

Blog Post # 4- Media and Self Esteem

1.  Why do you think people are portrayed this way in the media?

I have no idea how or anything, for starters, I don't even read magazines. But however, there is something definitely wrong with this picture.

2.  How are you affected by the images you see?

I had a naive way of thinking that the people in the magazines are truly that pretty. Well, I have a friend that's a part time model and she is as pretty as she looks. Only after I saw this video, I could say anyone could be in that video and look absolutely stunning. Especially with all the make up that looked so natural, it made my skin crawl. After all these years of thinking that these people in magazines were natural pretty made me think of how the world actually looks.

3.  What can be done to reduce the amount of young men and women that are negatively affected by these images?

A chain link could be started; I know that some artists may not like the fact about how much make up they put on. It takes one person to stand up and take the lead. Sometimes on the news, you see some artist that had wanted their own face, make up free on the
magazine or online. For example, Taylor Swift. To most people, see seems ordinary. Maybe she is, because she is only human. But this is another side of her, our idea of beautiful is so disoriented that we can't even be ourselves without being judged.

4.  What would your reaction be to a magazine cover where the subject isn’t all glammed up?  Is this a possible route that society should take?  Why or why not?

I would be happy to see that our society isn’t as perfect as it seems or corrupted to seem this ‘perfectness’. It is a possible route that more people than you think would accept. We should look upon models that are healthy, beautiful and happy because they love who they are. Back in the olden times, fat was considered very good in society because it represented wealth. If you were fat, it meant that you eat good food and can provide yourself with good food. Being super skinny isn’t the best way to be beautiful.

Blog Post # 3- To share or not to share

1.  1. What is your personal opinion towards file sharing?  Is it right or wrong? Please explain.

File sharing... hmm, I usually thank the people who share the things I need. (Not literally of course.)   These things would be like my k-pop music, manga, pictures and maybe some other things I can't seem to remember right now. It is wrong, but I still do it. It is because I don't actually have the money to legally buy the songs and the manga. I still do it because those are the things I love. It is wrong because of copyright. I mean, we have laws about copyright, so it doesn't give us the right to disobey it right now.

2.  If you produced your own piece of art/song/movie, would you hold the same opinion?

If I produced my own piece of art/song/movie, I know things would be different. It is because I know what it feels like when you want something that you can never reach. However if it is possible, even if I lose money out of it, I want to consider the feelings of others (if they really appreciate it). In fact, I probably want it to be free because of all the limits that surround buying songs online and actually buying them.

3.  Do you feel it is morally acceptable to download copyrighted material if it is only intended for personal use?

I mean like, if everyone did that then the artists that produce music wouldn't really get much profit in return. I think it is acceptable but even still, if you had the song that your friend really wanted, you would give it to them. Maybe a friend of the friend also really loved it too and also wanted it, it would be from one to two, two to four, four to many, many others. This is a difficult question because I think it all just depends on who's work it is, and their idea of downloading copyrighted material.

Texting in social situations

Taken from Google Images
Texting- the sending of text messages via cellphones or other mobile devices.

When students go into high school, most of them will receive a cell phone. Of course, texting is a form of communication. Texting is very helpful in a way. Instead of communicating through a phone and just hanging up every time you need to go, you can just BBM or just text with a cell phone. With texting, you can make quick conversation that can last you forever. You can be talking about school one day and the next topic can be totally unrelated. It is perfect for making conversations out of school and out of the house, but keeping the phone in your hand almost 24/7 is really out of the line. The phone isn't your life and the art of languages are changing. Brb, ttyl, g2g, these acronyms makes our generation forget the correct spelling of some words. It even makes it more annoying when you write a whole sentence or phrase, only to get lol, or kk back. It makes the replying person seem really rude and not caring.

Then sometimes in life, you might run into a long lost childhood friend from years back, only to be texting every other minute. It is very rude to try to talk with someone, who doesn't really seem to be hearing what you are saying. Texting maybe really convenient but you have to know when to let go.

Five etiquette rules for texting
1. Look at where you are texting.
Not in the movies, and especially not when you are driving either
2. Consider the message you are texting about, maybe somethings are to be said face-to-face
3. Don't really text when you're with friends, it is really rude
4. Don't be on your phone everywhere, it isn't necessary
5. Have your phone vibrate when you get a message, all the noise a phone makes is a big distraction.
